From here, click on the link, log in with your account and then you will be able to download the instructions which explain to you how to install Focused within your Notion account. You will need a Notion account before you do this step, so if you don't have one, the instructions will guide you through setting one up - it is free.

Once you have Focused installed, the built in system will coach you through how to get started, step you through all of the key features, sections and documentation. As you follow the steps, you will get to the point where you have setup Focused for yourself and you will know how to use it.

Having worked within the IT industry for 20+ years, a key requirement for me (and my data) is security. This is one of the reasons why I chose Notion to begin with for myself and why I built Focused on it as well. Notion has a very well thought out security and privacy implementation, having gained a lot of world-class industry security accreditations such as SOC 2 Type 2 which is one of the highest security accreditations achievable. It assesses an organisation over a period of time to ensure security controls are not only implemented but adhered to, so that customers can have an assurance that their data is both secure and remains private. As Focused installs as a unique copy within your own Notion account, there is no tracking, third party integration or anything that links back to me or any company associated with Focused. This means that you are completely private when using Focused. I have no ability or way of knowing what you store in Focused, how you use it, how often you use it, when you use it, where you use it or anything else that other apps might know about you. This is another advantage of using Focused over a desktop/mobile app, there is no tracking and there is no ability to track. Your copy of Focused is 100% yours and local to your Notion account, with no link back to me or anything else. This way you a free to use it however you like.

The good news about Focused is that is completely customisable. Focused at its heart is just a template built upon Notion. This means, when you install it you are actually just taking a copy of that template and pasting it within your Notion account. Once you have done that, you have a stand-alone copy of Focused. This means with this copy you can do whatever you like. You can use the options available in Notion to change it however you like. In other words, whatever is available in Notion, you can do in Focused.

For example, if you don't like the home screen and would rather have some photos on it or you would like to re-arrange the menu items, you can do it. Simply unlock the page from the page menu on the top right and modify it to how you see fit. If you don't like the colours, change them. If you want a particular database view, add it or modify and existing one. You can do what you like as it is your own copy, completely seperate from me or anyone else's.

As a warning though, Focused is extremely complicated in the way all of the various databases, views and pages are interlinked together (which is where the main functionality stems from). So making changes to any of these aspects could break the functionality of Focused. If you do make changes, then it is at your own risk. If there are any functionality issues, then you will need to just install a new copy of Focused and start again.

I've tried many productivity apps, and while they've mostly been helpful, they often fall short because they only focus on a single niche. For example task management apps, they won't guide you on whether the tasks you are completing are really moving you towards your goals, or they won't help you to be organized, or even help you avoid burnout. They just get you to do more tasks, which is limiting and why many people don't end up finding long-term success. The same applies to time tracking, note-taking, or habit tracking apps, they're great in their specific area but not for overall success.

The only way to use apps effectively for long-term success is to spend a lot of time working out what works for you, which apps suit your system and then configuring each app for that system. This is very time consuming, complicated and expensive, especially as you will need to try many apps before you find the ones that suit you best.
